Biography text is a detailed description or account of a person’s life and written by someone else, it is nonfiction text.
• Function of Biography
To know a person’s story about his/her life outside of any accomplishments this person may be known for.
To give much information easily and educate the readers.
• Characteristics of Biography
1. Biography is not written by subject and always written in the third person.
2. Based on research.
3. Describes the person’s surroundings (where, when and how the person lived).
4. Use vivid language to narrate events.
• Generic Structure
1. Orientation (Introduction)
It is the opening paragraph, gives the readers the background information of the person.
2. Events
In events, should be in chronological order.
3. Re-Orientation (Closing)
It consists of a conclusion or comment or the writer. Tell about the achievement or the contribution of the person.

- Long Biography (about life and times of someone in a lot more detail).

Short Biography of Mohammad Hatta
Mohammad Hatta was born on August 12, 1902 in West Sumatra, to be precise in the city of Bukit Tinggi. Hatta became the first vice president in Indonesia. He helped Soekarno and the founding fathers of the nation a lot in achieving independence. He is a person who loves to read. He is also known as the Father of Indonesian Cooperatives. Hatta promoted the concept of an economy that was based on the spirit of community cooperation. Cooperatives are the pillars of the economy at the smallest level, such as a village. An empowered village, both in terms of economy and food, will make a nation stronger.
Ki Hajar Dewantara
Ki Hajar Dewantara's first name is Raden Mas Soewardi Soeryaningrat. He was born in Yogyakarta on May 2, 1889. He comes from the Kraton family. There is something unique, when he was 40 years old, he changed his name to Ki Hajar Dewantara, the purpose of changing his name, he was able to mingle with the community in general.
In his education, he finished elementary school at ELS (Dutch Elementary School), then continued his education to STOVIA (Bumiputera Doctor's school), he did not finish school because of illness. Then as an adult he worked as a journalist in several newspaper media, including Sedyotomo, Midden Java, DeExpress, Kaoem Moeda and so on.
Apart from being active in journalism and writing, he is also active in several social and political organizations. In 1908, he was active as a propagandist for Boedi Oetomo to socialize and raise awareness of the Indonesian people. He often voiced the importance of national and state unity and integrity. Ki Hajar Dewantara's fighting spirit grew even more intense in the form of his struggle until in November 1913 he formed the Boemipoetra Committee to criticize the Dutch government who wanted to celebrate 100 years of Dutch freedom from French colonialism by withdrawing money from the colonized people.
His personality and struggles in the world of education are undeniable, considering that he was the founder of the Taman Siswa National College on July 3, 1922. His achievements in the world of education made him the first Minister of Education, Teaching and Culture, until the date of his birth, which is May 2, served as Education Day. National (Hardiknas).
Despite his extremely successful life as an inventor and businessman, Thomas Edison did not do very well at school. His school career was so unsuccessful that he ended up being homeschooled by his mother. However, Edison did always have an entrepreneurial spirit. As a youth, Edison would sell vegetables, candy, and newspapers on trains to earn money. Edison was also a keen inventor as a child, setting up his first lab in his parent's basement at the age of 10.
Edison’s interest in communications, which would later inform some of his inventions, came about in a strange way. It all started when, one day, Edison saved a child from a runaway train. This child’s father happened to be a telegraph operator and, in return for saving his child’s life, trained Edison to be a telegraph operator as well.
Thomas Edison is widely regarded as one of the greatest American inventors of all time. Throughout his life, Edison gained over 1000 patents for his inventions, the most famous of which is arguably the lightbulb. Edison was able to invent at such a rapid speed because of his large invention laboratory. This laboratory was home to a team of people that Edison had working for him. This team worked together with Edison to help develop and test his inventions.
In addition to being an inventor, Edison was also a keen businessman. For this reason, he used many of his inventions to form companies. Edison was an owner of countless companies in fields like: Automobiles, Batteries, Cement and cement products Electric light, both domestic and foreign, Mining, Office machinery and supplies, Phonographs, both domestic and foreign, Telegraphs and telephones, both domestic and foreign, and Motion pictures.
