Definition of Descriptive Text

Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

• Generic Structure of Descriptive Text

When writing descriptive text, there are some generic structures (actually not mandatory) for our writing to be true. The arrangement is:

Identification : (contains about the introduction of a person, place, animal or object will be described.)

Description : contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person by describing its features, forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describe.

My room is my favorite place in my house.

My room is in second floor, next to my big sister’s room. My room is painted light grey. There is big bed inside my room where I sleep every day. I put some pictures on my desk. There are my family picture, my picture with my friends, and my pictures with my pet, Luna, a persian cat. I also have drawers where I put all my clothes inside. My room is not big, but it is the best place in my house for me.

Liberty Statue

The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World or mostly known as The Statue of Liberty is located in Liberty Island in New York Harbor, United States. This national building is symbol of freedom. It was a gift from The French to United States to celebrate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence.

Liberty Statue is made of 3.16 inch thick of copper sheets. The appearance of the statue is believed to be representing the Roman goddess of freedom. Its right hand is holding a torch, and the left hand is holding a book with the date of the American Declaration of Independence written on it. The colour of the statue was rusty brown, but after 30 years of oxidation process, it turns into green as we can see now.

The height of the statue measured from its base is 46 meters, but when it is measured from the ground, it is 93 meters. The height of the head is 14 feet. The width of the eye is 28 inches. The length of the nose is 3 feet 9 inches. The length of the forefinger is 8 feet. The total weight of the statue is 440.000 pounds.

The Komodo Island

The island of Komodo is a part of the Lesser Sunda chain of the Indonesian islands. The island is particularly notable as the home of the giant monitor lizard, often called the Komodo dragon. It lies on the Sape Strait between Flores and Sumbawa islands and has an area of approximately 520 square km.

The Komodo Island is also a part of Komodo National Park area, managed by the Central Government. There is one village, called Komodo village, with a population of over two thousand people. They live side by side with Komodo dragons within the park. Most of them make a living by selling souvenirs, guiding the tourists, and renting boats for tourists. Only a small percentage of them work as a fisherman.

The Komodo Island is one of few remaining areas which are inhabited by Komodo dragons. They are endangered species and protected by the law in Indonesia. They roam wild over the island. They may grow up to 3 meters long, weigh up to 135 kg, and can live up to 100 years. Regularly, the park official supply goat and pig carcasses to attract these giant lizards to viewing areas for tourists. It is known that about 1,000 of the Komodo dragons live on the Komodo Island and another 1,000 live on the neighboring island of Rinca.

She became famous in the 1990’s with the pop group “The Spice Girl”and was known as Posh Spice. In 1999, she married the Manchester United and England footballer, David Beckham. They have four children, three sons and a daughter.

After The Spice Girl split up, she pursued a solo singer career, but also started her own fashion range called dVb Style. Since this initial foray into fashion Victoria Beckham has brought out her own range of sunglasses and fragrance, entitled “Intimately Beckham”and a range of handbags and jewelry.

In addition she had written two best-selling books: one her autobiography and the other, a fashion guide.
